Island off the East Coast of Africa (SPACES FULL: Contact us to be placed on a waiting list)

WHEN
Jul 17 2026 - Jul 26 2026
COST
$3,300.00
This will be Mission Partners 1st visit to this island location. This location has become a popular tourism location over the past several years because it boasts white sandy beaches, balmy weather and warm tropical waters.  Tourism is one of the top income generators for this island in addition to the export of aromatic spices such as cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, lemongrass, turmeric and black pepper.

Considerable disparities in the standards of living exist between the people groups and becomes magnified between urban and rural populations.  The average annual income is US $2500. About half the population lives below the poverty line.

This island has a history of control by Sultans and was known as a main slave trading port until the British took over and worked to abolish the slave trade.  They gained their independence from Great Britain in 1963.

Despite a relatively high standard of primary health care and education, infant mortality is 54 out of 1,000 live births.  The child mortality rate is 73 out of 1,000 live births.  It is estimated that 7% of children on the island have acute malnutrition.  The life expectancy rate is 57 years.

Almost 98% of the population follows Islam.  However, there are also a few Christian churches mostly located in the highly populated areas.  Most of the population are waiting to hear the gospel message!

We plan to end our trip with some time to relax on a sandy beach before traveling back home.

Please consider joining Missions Partners for Christ in providing a 4-day medical clinic for the unreached and underserved people in remote areas of this island.  We will serve together with our long-time missionary partner-CAPRO Calvary Ministries. You can use your gifts, talents and resources to serve God’s people through this medical outreach. In so doing, you will strengthen your faith, meet some incredible people and maybe even witness God’s healing powers firsthand.

We desire medical professionals (physicians, physician associates, nurse practitioners, and nurses to join this team. Other positions are already filled. ***Space is limited so register today!

If you have questions about location or anything else regarding the trip, email us: [email protected]

Please note: First-time volunteers will be required to have a one-on-one debrief meeting with founder Sheri Postma to discuss experiences from the trips as well as any concerns or questions you may have before being approved for any followup mission trips. This is to ensure that our volunteers have the most positive experience over all.
